Why Mari Blogs and Why You Should Too!

You know, I had never really considered myself much of a blogger. However, if you know me well enough, you know that I like to talk, I like to share my opinions, and I like creative writing.

As I approach May and the scary “G-word” (graduation… please don’t say it allowed), I am taking a class that requires me to blog. To be honest, I was lowkey dreading having to do it. However, just four weeks later, it has become one of my favorite assignments to complete every week.

Perhaps it is because now that I am older, I feel like I have more to say and more knowledge to share my thoughts in a constructive and insightful manner.

As a young Public Relations professional, I am well aware that image and brand is EVERYTHING and this is exactly what my blog – What Mari Thinks – is all about.

To get the most of this experience, I decided to do some more research and came to find an article that outlines the Key Strategies for Using Blogging to Build Personal Brand. This piece explains that:

  1. In order to have a fruitful blog that you can use as one of your online marketing strategies, you need a killer content.

  2. Creating relevant content and defining your target audience go hand in hand.

  3. Creating a cool visual identity for your blog is definitely important.

  4. Social media visibility is currently one of the most important digital marketing strategies out there.

Although I am new to all of this, I feel as if I am 100% learning how to create a personal brand, one that showcases who I am and the image I want to show to the world.

Now, not only am I expressing myself but I am also learning valuable transferable skills that will be used for years to come. I say this because many think that Public Relations and blogging is a match made in heaven:

Increasingly, savvy companies are turning to blogs to complement their communications arsenal of press releases, newsletters and client communications. Blogging is a powerful tool for communicating your business’ stories. And in essence, that’s what Public Relations – PR – is all about. Public Relations and blogging: A match made in heaven?

Hopefully, my future employers see the value in this and my range of skills. And although this blog is about me, myself, and I… I promise that if you take a read you may come to like my thoughts too!
